ABOUT BARBARA
I was born in Leesburg, North Carolina, but grew up in both Leesburg and Blanch, two small rural farming communities. My parents sharecropped tobacco until I left home at age nineteen.
I always wanted to write. When I was eleven, I wrote a three-page story and hid it under the mattress. I caught my mother reading it one day. Her interest was enough to fertilize that writing seed in me. Now that I am older and bolder and have time to write, I will.
While in high school, I was told I was not a brilliant student, which I needed to be in order to study journalism. Well, I'm not a journalist, but I still have a burning desire to write about topics and issues that interest me. You see, I believe that each of us has a responsibility to pass along the best thoughts and ideas of ourselves to those willing to receive them.
Some of the things I write
about will cause some people to become uncomfortable or angry, but I believe we all can benefit from views that may differ from the status quo.
I'm not loyal to any political party. I am loyal to the constitution of the United States to a certain degree-- about 95%. I'm still waiting for this republic to live up to its beautifully written words for all Americans.
I graduated from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina with a degree in Sociology in 1977. I thought I was going to effect change in communities across the nation. I thought I was going to help every non-disabled person that was receiving welfare or subsidized housing to learn another way to live and thrive in this truly land opportunity. I wanted everyone to achieve prosperity and not get trapped in many programs that encouraged and
solidified poverty.

I wrote my first novel at age twenty-nine, it was rejected, but the agent suggested that I write my memoir first. I will be sharing snippets of my memoir on my Blog from time to time. I sincerely believe my life experiences can and will be useful to many people striving to navigate their lives.
I have four beautiful children, two of which came with my wonderful second husband George.
